William C. Stancil Jr., known to family and friends as Bill or Mr. Bill, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, in Norfolk, Viginia at the age of 73. He was born in Portsmouth, Va. To Shirley and William C. Stancil Sr.
Bill attended Virginia Beach Public Schools. Graduating from Princess Anne H.S., 1968, where he was a member of the State Champion football team. He also briefly studied at ODU.
Bill worked at several motorcycle shops in the Tidewater area, including Checkered Flag Motorsports, where he built many winning motocross bikes (Smoky Miller). He became the first Honda Certified Honda car technician in the Tidewater area. Bill was the owner of Mr. Bill’s Auto Repair, before closing it to work at his AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants dealership full-time. He achieved the title of Regency Silver Direct Jobber and earned the Platinum Cup shortly before his illness.
Bill was a past founding member and president of the Renegades Motorcycle Club. After which he devoted his life and heart to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in 1982. Bill served in the Bus Ministry at Gateway FWB Church, driving church buses for over 35 years. He was a humble servant who would always look for ways to be of help, including washing dishes and mopping floors.
Bil loved to grill over charcoal and has fed thousands of children and church members on his simple Weber grills.
Bill would share his love of the Lord and life changing testimony with anyone, any time. Always telling how he didn’t change it, but only through the grace, mercy, and power of Jesus, can you really change a life. Bill would implore you to let the Lord Jesus in your life today. Wont you come?
Bill is predeceased by his parents, William C. Stancil Sr. and Shirley Wilson Stancil, and stepson, Shane Paul Moore.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Barbara Stancil; his children: William C. Stancil III, Kenneth A. Stancil (Jill), and stepdaughter, Patricia Carter (Coates); grandchildren: Sarah Moore Fitzgerald, W. Aidan Stancil, Reese Young, Bracken, Grace, Ada, and Wren Carter; sister, Dr. Cassandra S. Gunkel; beloved nieces, Kimberly Barbe and Naomi Ruth Gunkel; nephews, David Vine and Brian Vine; daughters-in-law, Patricia Fitzgerald (Maurice) and Leia Stancil; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services to honor and remember Bill’s life will be held February 26, 2024. The family will receive friends and relatives at 6:00pm with a Celebration of Bill’s life to follow at 7:00pm at Gateway Freewill Baptist Church, 5471 Virginia Beach Blvd., Va. Beach, Va. 23462
