
William Irving Mathieson, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 13, at his home. Born November 2, 1923 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late James and Jessica Winifred Mathieson. He served his country during World War II as a Merchant Marine, and later worked as an engineer. He was a big baseball fan, rooting especially for the New York Mets. He will be remembered as a great story-teller, and for his good sense of humor. Mr. Mathieson enjoyed ballroom dancing and skiing in Vermont.
He is survived by his loving wife, Olga Mathieson; five sons,
Robert Mathieson and his wife, Terry, of Virginia Beach, Stephen Mathieson and his wife, Leslee, of Smithtown, NY, Peter Mathieson and his wife, Susan, of Smithtown, NY, William Mathieson of Virginia Beach, and John Mathieson and his wife, Choy, of Kathleen, GA; two daughters, Pamela Villalba and her husband, Marco, of Freeport, NY, and Katarina Alvarado of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14th from 7 to 8 p.m. at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 5401 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15th at 10 a.m. at Albert Horton Memorial Veterans’ Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk.
